Registration for the 2014 Summit opened to young entrepreneurs from across the G20 economies and beyond. Places were limited and demand was high, so applications were reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and approved applicants were confirmed at the published delegate rate. This page brings together how registration worked, what it cost and what delegates needed to arrange for themselves.
Registration overview
Delegate registration applications remained open after the first release of places and were assessed individually. Approved applicants were entitled to the delegate registration rate of AUD1,100. Because delegate positions were limited, the organisers encouraged early applications and made clear that approval would depend on how well an applicant matched the delegate criteria.
Everyone attending the Summit as a delegate was required to register before lodging a visa or electronic travel authority application, and an acknowledgement letter issued after approval was all that was needed from the event manager to support a visa application.
Delegate registration
The delegate rate applied to applicants who met the essential criteria, including being forty years of age or under and being a founder, co-founder, majority shareholder or leader in building the entrepreneur ecosystem. Approved delegates received confirmation along with the practical information they needed for the week in Sydney.
Observer and sponsored attendee registration
Not every interested party met the delegate criteria. For those who did not, the organisers offered ‘observer registration’ and ‘sponsored attendee registration’ packages. Both were available at a rate of AUD1,500, giving a route into the Summit for partners, supporters and others who wanted to take part without claiming a delegate place.
Fees at a glance
The table below sets out the headline rates published for the 2014 Summit, together with the negotiated accommodation rate at the delegate hotel.
| Item | Rate (AUD) |

Rates were quoted in Australian dollars and were subject to the terms and conditions published with the registration information.
Accommodation for delegates
Australian hosts encouraged delegates to book at the Sheraton on the Park, the Summit venue and the official delegate village, where a special Summit rate of AUD273 had been negotiated. The rate covered a cityside single room and included one breakfast per night, and it could apply to extended stays subject to availability. Delegates were encouraged to arrive on 17 July or early on 18 July so they could join the opening networking afternoon, while presidents and sherpas were asked to check in on 17 July.
Cancellation and terms
Registration was governed by a published cancellation policy and a set of terms and conditions. In broad terms, optional social functions and additional tickets could not be refunded when cancelled less than seventy-two hours before the event, and the organisers reserved the right to cancel or vary optional activities if minimum numbers were not reached.
The documents that follow this page set out the full terms, the registration cancellation policy and the requirements that applied to participants. Any delegate with a question about their own booking was advised to contact the conference organisers directly using the details on the Contact Us page.
What was included
Delegate registration covered access to the full Summit programme, including plenary sessions, pillar working groups, showcases and the delegate networking functions held across the week. It also gave delegates access to the official delegate village at the Sheraton on the Park, where most of the programme took place.
Optional social functions and additional tickets were priced separately, and some activities carried their own conditions, including minimum numbers. Delegates were advised to read the inclusions carefully before booking, so they knew which parts of the week were covered by the registration fee and which had to be arranged separately.
How to register
The registration process was designed to be completed in a few steps:
- Review the delegate criteria and confirm which registration type fits
- Complete and submit the registration application
- Wait for the case-by-case review and written acknowledgement of approval
- Pay the applicable rate and confirm your place
- Book accommodation at the Summit hotel and arrange travel
- Lodge your visa or electronic travel authority once approved
Following this sequence kept delegate registration, accommodation and travel documents in step, and it made visa applications straightforward for delegates travelling to Australia from overseas.
